Decker Electric, Inc. is a full-service electrical, security and telecommunications contractor with projects in 27 states. Our expertise covers everything from medium voltage primary distribution to PLC programming to fiber optic installation. We specialize in design-build work for oil and gas, renewable fuels and energy, chemical processing, food and beverage, ethanol, railroad, manufacturing and industrial, healthcare, commercial, and municipal clients.

This is a great opportunity for an up and coming construction professional who is confident, self-motivated, and passionate about what they do. The purpose of this role is to prepare bid documents and cost estimates for construction projects by collecting and studying information, evaluating bid specifications and drawings, and accurately obtaining quantities for developing a cost estimate. Candidates must be able to work as part of a team to meet critical deadlines.

 

Essential Duties

  • Review specifications and drawings to determine scope of work and required contents of estimate.
  • Participate in "Go/No Go" decisions; Bid review Meetings; Project Kickoff Meetings, etc.
  • Perform take offs and develop cost estimates from drawings and specifications for work we self-perform and enter data into estimating software
  • Compile completed bid packets and review to ensure there are no scope gaps.
  • Gather and coordinate subcontractor bids.
  • Identify qualified suppliers and request quotes. Review them for completeness with plans and specifications
  • Itemize and quantify all incidentals necessary for scope of work
  • Draft scope letter inclusions, exclusions, and clarifications for estimates

Skills and Knowledge Requirements:

  • Computer knowledge and efficiency, including Microsoft Office products, document control systems, and estimating software
  • Functions effectively as part of a team
  • Good time management skills and organizational skills
  • Ability to meet critical deadlines

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and/or engineering design drawings

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Degree/training/associate in construction or a related field
  • Can be a combination of education, training, or relevant job experience

Other Requirements

  • Prolonged periods sitting/standing at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Strong computer skills required
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to travel for short periods of time for pre bid attendance
  • Regular and predictable attendance is required
  • Ability to pass drug screen and background check
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record

Pay and Benefits

  • Salary is commensurate with position, experience, skills, and education
